Little Osage Studio Lithics

My name is Joe Sprague and I display my work under the name Little Osage Studio Lithics.  My work can best be described as "Art with a purpose" and that purpose is up to you!  Whether you're looking for a tangible connection to the past or a piece to put to work in historical or traditional ways in our modern world you can find it here. My work is an esthetically pleasing modern representation of stone manipulation/shaping utilizing the very principles and skills that has been a necessity of human development and survival for 10's of thousands of years.  I find it mind blowing that stone remained the "cutting edge" of technology (figuratively and quite literally) an unfathomable amount of time throughout our history, having touched every culture on earth...  an amazing fact and quite humbling to think about.  It is this wonder and amazement that has driven me to understand how things were done, made, used, and developed over time.  I consider myself a lifelong learner and an eager student of culture, history, science and behavior who strives for perfection in all that I do.  As such, knapping has become my connection to learning and recreating the highest skills of the past. From our humble beginnings as nomadic hunter/gathers to the last cultures using stone tools, beautifully functional work abounds and inspires across the millennia. Thank you for taking the time to view my gallery and I sincerely hope you get as much enjoyment from viewing my work as I have gotten creating it.

If you have any questions please reach out to me at Little Osage Studio Lithics on Facebook or give me a call (or text) at 620-363-4600
