Harley Slade

Howdy! My name is Harley. I'm a flint knapper from Vancouver BC.
I started flintknapping when I was in grade 10. I would work the bottoms off of beer bottles into crude points using direct percussion, leaving more broken bifaces behind than i care to admit. i fluted my first point on the eve of my 18th birthday at around 11 PM. I was sitting on a concrete block outside of a motel just south of the Grand Canyon. a layer of frost was beginning to accumulate all around me. My hands were at that pleasant stage between the ache of cold and when gangrene starts to wiggle its way into your finger tips. i was trembling when i gave the piece of obsidian that final flute. That's when the knapping bug dug its claws into my brain.
Ever since that night I strive to become a better flint knapper, working different stone, and making each point better than the last.
