This repro Hopewell plain platform pipe is made from some very hard Steatite or Serpentinite. If it's Steatite, then it has a very low Talc content. This stuff is translucent. In dim light, if you insert a penlight in the bowl, the stack (spool) glows a very pretty green. If you put the light at the stem hole, it does the same and you can actually see where some of the stem hole is.
Actually, I don't like working this stone because it is so hard, but I like how it turns out. It takes almost twice as long to make a pipe from this stuff as it would with Pipestone or Siltstone.
This pipe, as well as all the other items I make, has been smudged with White Sage. |
