A real nice plain platform pipe made from a hard type of Black Soapstone with greenish inclusions. As far as I can tell, there are two basic types of platform pipes. Plain, like this one, and effigy type. Some people call these monitor pipes, but I always considered the flat based pipes as monitor pipes.
This pipe went to the top of the list of my favorite plain platform pipes I've made. The colors are outstanding and everything from the curved platform to the top of the rim just blended together well. If you take a pen light and set it on top of, or into the rim shining down the bowl, part of the stack glows a luminescent green as does the stem hole. |
