This arrow is a close copy of one that came off the lower Klamath River and is most likely Yurok in origin. I never used to think the Native peoples in that region ever used Port Orford cedar for arrows but after examining some old originals I discovered otherwise. The shaft is made from Port Orford cedar and is nicely barreled (tapered ends) like the original and is grooved on each end with horse tail rush. This looks like a fore shafted arrow but is not. The sinew wrap that is painted red on the shaft is most likely a draw point marker which has been seen on other old arrows. The small side notch point is made of jasper and set into its notch with pitch and lashed with sinew painted red. The long fletchings are hen peacock feathers wrapped with sinew and glued down with hide glue. The original arrows that i examined were very beautifully made and are prime examples of the Native Yurok archers art and craft.
