This Wintu arrow is a very close copy of an original housed in the Hearst Museum at Berkeley CA. The main shaft is made of syringa and the foreshaft of service berry. The Wintu style obsidian point is set into its notch with pitch and sinew. The tapered mortise joint at the front of the main shaft is wrapped with a double layer of sinew lashing. Orange colored red ochre is used for the red and ground soot used for the black. The fletchings are Canada Goose feathers and are lashed with sinew and glued down with hide glue. The sinew lashings on this arrow are coated with black colored hide glue like on the original. This arrow is finely ringed with horse tail rush grooves on the foreshaft and the main shaft where the cresting is like on the old one. I love making Wintu points but even more so, I love putting them into context of how they once looked on the Wintu arrows they were used on.
