This replica Maidu arrow is copied after an original. It is a two part or compound arrow with the main shaft being made out of syringa and the main shaft made out of a shoot of wild cherry, a hard wood similar to service berry. A late period style obsidian point is glued into the foreshaft with pitch and lashed with deer sinew. The crest is red ochre and a dark blue pigment found on many CA arrows from this region. The fletch is hen peacock which resembles dark raptor feathers and are glued onto the shaft with hide glue. The Maidu lived on the west side of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California which would place them east of the Sacramento area. They were neighbors with Ishi's people the Yana and Yahi.
