This is a very accurate replica of one of Ishi's hunting arrows taken from Grizzly Bear's Hiding Place camp on Deer Creek CA in 1908 by the Apperson family, now housed at the Hearst Museum at U.C. Berkley. The point is made from window pane glass like Ishi's original and made exact as possible. The main shaft is syringa and the 7 3/4" foreshaft is made of service berry and glued into its nock with pitch. Dark blue pigment and red earth ochre are used to copy Ishi's arrow crest. Feathers and point are lashed with deer sinew. The original arrow are turkey vulture feathers but on this arrow I substituted peacock which look very similar for legal purposes. This arrow is has written on it which arrow from the museum it is copied from and signed. I don't make too many of these. i will ship this in a piece of abs pipe for stoutness. |
