This replica Hupa arrow is a close copy of an original in a private collection. The main shaft is made from a shoot of syringa . The removable fore shaft is made from a shoot of wild cherry. The large side notched elk bone point is a type seen from Hupa country and has a stem along with side notches and is glued into the notch and sinew wrapped. Be sure and look at the photo of the originals at the bottom of the pic list. Red and dark blue-green pigments were used on this arrow just like the originat. The fletch is Canada goose wing feathers lashed with sinew and glued with hide glue. Fine rings are cut into the shaft with horse tail rush, a trait very commonly seen on CA arrows from the Lower Klamath River. This large elk bone point takes longer to make than a typical late period side notched point but it is how they were made.
