A new addition to my Primitive Tools collection. This heavy duty farming hoe was made from a long and strong Elk leg bone and a rugged and well shaped percussion flaked stone hoe blade made from a piece of Illinois flint. The blade has been set and secured with epoxy putty and wrapped with plenty of natural Elk Backstrap Sinew. There is a hand sewn elk hide wrap around the handle for a sure grip. It has been stretched to fit. This is well balanced for the work it is intended, heavy and solid. Nothing fancy, just practical. It looks like it was found in a cave where it was left a thousand years ago.
Tools were tools. They were not pretty but functional. This hoe is representative of tools found in the Mississippi River Valley. These were solid and strong tools.
