This arrow is a close copy of some in the Smithsonian that were collected by Maj. Stephen Powell on the Feather River in CA circa 1876. This could be a Konkow Maidu arrow or possibly a Pit RIver Shasta Atsugewi arrow as Powell collected over a fairly wide area in Northern CA. The main shaft is made of a shoot of syringa and the 7" fore shaft is made of service berry and is snugly fitted into the main shaft with a mortise joint wrapped with sinew. The stone side notched point is made out of red rhyolite set into the notch with pitch and sinew lashings. The cresting is white diatomaceous earth with a spiral banding of dark green pigment in the center made of earth paints and pigments. Fletching is peacock wing feathers which closely resembles the raptor feathers used on the original. arrow and are lashed with sinew and glued down with hide glue.
