This is raw rootbeer chert. I made a video series last year showing the reduction strategy I use on these. The finished Montell is the one I made in the video along with an early stage Montell shown also. The preform is hammerstone with some punch work to get the notches punched in. I thought it may be cool to sell these together. The very base of the Montell is a little thicker, but the blade punched down to 4.08 mm thick and 40.16 mm wide. As you look at how fat the preforms are it’s pretty interesting. After Al the bison pressure nibbling to finish edgework I usually have a couple hours in the finished points. The preform of finished would make a smaller Montell as it’s 3 9/16” long. The larger, finished piece is 4” |
