Here's a pretty cool reproduction Marble Butterfly Bannerstone. I was told this material was Steatite, but I'm pretty sure it's Marble. Whatever it is, it's hard. It has some goldish flakes that might be Pyrite.
The only Native Americans that I know of that used/carved Marble were the people from the town of Etowa, in NW Georgia. From what I have read, they were a part of the Mississippian culture and they had ties with the town of Cahokia in IL, and the mound builders in Spiro, OK.

A pretty thin banner weighing in at 2.5 oz.
The drilled hole is 1/2" +. Perfect for a cane Atlatl shaft.
