This is a Hopewell animal effigy pipe I've been wanting to replicate for a while now. I found the right stone. This is some Soapstone from Wisconsin.
The original pipe probably had fresh water pearls or perhaps Copper for the eyes. These eyes are made from white tail deer antler. There are differing views about the original teeth. Some say bone, some say seashell. I used shell because I had some yellowish shell on hand.
The original pipe was found in Pike County in Illinois at the Bedford site.
This pipe is sold, but I do take orders. |
