Here's a set of glass Ishi points I'm offering as a set. The small clear glass point is a close copy of one that is on one of Ishi's arrows that came from his secret hidden camp on Deer Creek NE of Chico CA called 'Grizzly Bears Hiding Place' in 1908. The point is made from old broken window pane glass and the original is hafted on one of Ishi's arrows housed at the California State Indian Museum in Sacramento CA. This point is what Ishi was actually hunting with while still living in the wilds and is typical of Yana and Yahi late period points.
The red glass point is typical of the kind Ishi made for show and for gifts after he came out of the wilds in 1911 when he lived at the museum in San Francisco until his passing. These are commonly called "Ishi points" but are more of a Wintu style that he was familiar with but the points he actually hunted with are like the little clear glass one whch they used in lieu of obsidian in latter years. |
