Primitive tools were made for functionality not looks. They never decorated tools and nothing more than necessary was ever done to tools. Broken spear points, arrowheads, and knife blades all became tools.
This is a corner tang knife flintknapped out of a beautiful black Dacite. Corner-tang knives like this style were used to slice meat or scrape fur. They had a lanyard or strap looped around their wrist that was lashed to the tang of the blade. This allowed the hands to be free to grab while letting the knife hang from the wrist.
This knife has a 4 1/4 inch thin, sharp, serrated Dacite blade. There is a 7 inch long soft buckskin adjustable wrist strap adorned with wooden trade beads and an antler tine adjusting bead. The wooden beads were positioned to protect the hand from scraping. It has been lashed to the blade with natural elk sinew. There is no adhesive used on this piece. This would look nice hanging in your office or den.
This blade is 4 1/4 x 1 3/8 inches
