This is a St.Charles dovetail out of a coarser grained variety of upper Mercer or “Coshocton” chert. This variety may not seem as inviting to knappers because it lacks the slick surface and blue/black colors of the varieties most people think of with coshocton, it also appears tough. It actually flakes exceptionally and gives points an old look right off the knapping pad.
