Ok, so this is what I've been working on for a number of days. This is a Columbia River/Plateau style neck knife. The blade is made out of Oregon Sunset jasper and is pitch glued into a carved wooden handle of Pacific Yew and lashed with two ply nettle cord like on an original old one I saw. It has distinct mid Columbia decorations and motifs carved into it and is filled with red ochre. The knife itself is 9 1 1/2" long. The sheath is rawhide and is folded over and sewn with two ply elk sinew cordage. It has brain tan fringe on the bottom and top with several rows of blue and white pony beads. The paints are all native earth pigments painted on parfleche style typical of the Columbia plateau. The knife inside sheath is about a foot in length. Obviously not something I make every day.
