Dennis Leopold

-- Old Copper Culture -- Native American Copper Using Societies -- Hand forged

I am Dennis Leopold and live within a stone's throw of Lake Superior, in the heart of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. My main area of interest is Native American copper technology as practiced within the Great Lakes region, though I have knapped a few points over the years, my main focus is on chalcolithic/copper tool reproductions.

My Process
I work with chunks of solid copper, annealing it in a primitive, wood ash lined box forge, fired with lump hardwood charcoal. I use a combination of modern and primitive techniques to rough out, shape, and refine each piece, attaining its final form by abrading and shaping with sandstone. I work harden working edges where appropriate and each finished artifact is “signed” by me with a small, unobtrusive makers mark.

Payment and Shipping
Copper is pretty heavy, so I tend to ship via USPS priority mail, taking advantage of the If-It-Fits-It-Ships boxes provided by the US Post Office ($7.00). They tell me we can squeeze up to 70 pounds in there at no extra cost and are automatically insured for up to $50. If you purchase more than one item, I will happily combine your order to save on shipping, in addition, I recommend purchasing insurance for orders over $50. On occasion we'll need to talk about shipping options, some of my knives and larger spear points need bigger boxes ($14.00). You will receive a tracking number when I mail your purchase, please monitor its progress.

Please contact me before placing your order if you are purchasing internationally.

I prefer PayPal, but will happily accept a Postal Money Order. Contact me for other options.
