I have kept this monitor pipe for years, and have enjoyed the beauty of this stone, and did n’t want to part with it. This is a very, very hard pipestone, with great color, neat inclusions, and a nice finish. While writing this description I am still vacillating about selling and parting with it. I am trying to become a bit more practical as it’s time to downsize, (my wife says past time).
As a side note, I read and saw photos prior to carving this pipe which stated that raised center platform pipes are extremely rare. This is my compilation of aspects of this style.

I am having difficulty with photographing this pipe so I hope you will read what follows, so that if interested, you will read a better description of it than can be seen in the photos. It will probably end up being wordy, but I want to give an accurate description:

This pipe is dark black with a very slight green cast to it. There are grays ranging from medium to lighter gray interspersed. The mottling is consistent in appearance and covers the pipe. There are also a large quantity of uniform inclusions, sparkling, and are reminiscent of an opal to me, reflecting colors. The pipe as I said was really hard material, yet it worked well for me, and resulted in a very nice finished piece.
The pipe color in the photos on my monitor are showing up too greenish, and the black and gray colors seem a bit washed out. The rim at the top of the bowl in the photos look like it’s a very light green and has a rough texture. Some other places in the photos look a bit rough in texture, too. The pipe is rich in color, there’s no light green on the rim of the bowl, it’s the same color as the pipe. All of the pipe is slicked out, with a nice smooth, polished finish.
